The 2010 Witch's Cup Needs Volunteers!

The 2010 Witch's Cup is in need of volunteers. Held over two days during Labor Day weekend, it is a fun event designed to help teams get in 'game shape' for the fall travel season.

However, it takes a lot of work to host a tournament, and this year's event is no exception. Please consider donating a couple hours of time to help make this year's Cup a success.

If you would like to help Salem Youth Soccer make this year's Cup the best it can be, please use the Volunteer Registration to sign up. It can be found on our Registration page.

If you would like additional details about the event, volunteering or registering a team, feel free to contact me directly at .

In Town Update
by posted 08/16/2010

Dear fellow Soccer Parents,

I hope everyone has had a nice summer. Hard to believe it is August 12th already.

In a few weeks soccer season will be upon us and the kids will be having fun learning the game of soccer, making new friends, having fun with their teammates and enjoying being outside at the fields. Our league has seen a resurgence of participation, especially at the in-town program this past spring with our number of players increasing year over year. I believe this has a lot to do with the great work all of our volunteers have done to make your child’s soccer experience and your experience a great one. Their commitment to our league and the children of Salem are second to none.

As our league continues to grow more people are needed to help ensure the overall experience continues to improve as well. I’m sure everyone can recall being a part of youth sports or other activities when they were growing up and remember all of the people who took time out of their schedules to help make those activities successful. Like any youth organization we can only be successful if we have people who are willing to step up and help. There is a natural turnover of volunteers that occurs at this level and soon we will see some turnover. We want to be proactive in asking for help now so that the transition from older volunteer to newer volunteer will be seamless. Besides coaching and directors we need assistants to make sure our fields are in great shape or help with equipment or assist at our concession stand. In essence many hands make light work. We all have busy schedules but the more folks we have helping the less time it takes to do those tasks.

Please contact me directly if you have a certain skill(s) that you believe would benefit our league and/or are interested in volunteering. Even donating 1 hour per week makes a big difference to the success of our league.

We have a great group of people, we do have fun and weneed to have more of you on board.

I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.

All the best,

Jim Rush
In-Town VP

EQUIPMENT & JEWELERY
by posted 01/12/2010

EQUIPMENT AND JEWELERY

For our new players, as well as our returning players, please remember to come prepared to every game and practice.  Younger players should wear their Salem Youth Soccer t-shirts, and shorts/sweatpants (no jeans).  Travel players should wear their complete SYS black uniform.  All players must have shinpads and soccer cleats on for every game and practice. Shinpads must be covered by soccer socks.  Also, please remember to bring a water bottle as well as your own soccer ball.

Jewelery is not to be worn and must be removed before games begin. Players would be well advised to leave JEWELERY at home on the dresser on game day. Referee's will be checking players for jewelery and players will be asked to remove it before permission is granted to play.
